Rest in Peace Soldier ( 2nd Lt. Mark J. Daily )

My friends, Lt. Mark Daily was a Soldier who was ROTC Soldier of the year '05. He was killed on monday by an IED. In his last email to his family he wrote:

All is well," he wrote. "More war stories than I can fit in this e-mail. Having the time of my life!"

From his myspace page on why he joined:

"If you think the only way a person could bring themselves to volunteer for this war is through sheer desperation or blind obedience, then consider me the exception," he wrote.

"Don't forget that human beings have a responsibility to one another and that Americans will always have a responsibility to the oppressed," he added. "Don't overlook the obvious reasons to disagree with the war, but don't cheapen the moral aspects either."

He said his heroes were immigrants who risk their lives to achieve better ones.

He wrote that those who still don't get why he volunteered to go to Iraq should at least wish him good luck.
Thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, and his whole family and friends. May he rest in peace.

What was the Hall of Fame thinking?

My friends, Tony Gwynn and Cal Ripken Jr. both got ito the Baseball Hall of fame in the first time they could. Ripken appeared on 98.53 percent of ballots to finish with the third-highest percentage behind Tom Seaver (98.84) and Nolan Ryan (98.79). Gwynn received 97.61 percent, the seventh-highest ever, also trailing Ty Cobb, George Brett and Hank Aaron. You need 75 % to get in. My friends the question I ponder now is this :
If Cal Ripken can't get 100 percent who can? Another question to ponder two ballots were blank, how can you not vote those guys in? Is it a first time thing? That is just a silly reason.
On another more local note Jim Ed Rice fell short again. Here is a guy I used to pretend I was when I was in t-ball. So I have a soft spot for Mr. Jim Ed. The people in the know say that he may have a good chance next year. We'll keep hope alive 'til then.
